Joining the SAIEE

 

Membership of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) is open to anyone involved in the technical aspects of electrical engineering. Members are graded according to academic qualifications, experience and professional achievement. To join the SAIEE in a particular grade of membership, you must meet the criteria for that grade and submit a WRITTEN OR ONLINE APPLICATION on the relevant application form, together with supporting documentation where required.

SAIEE MEMBER GRADES


Below are all the SAIEE Membership Grade types. Feel free to peruse this section, which entails a small description of what is required for each grade, as well as a "click here" button if you would like to apply to that particular grade:

STUDENT MEMBERS
Student Members are those who have successfully completed one year of study in electrical engineering at a University or University of Technology.

ASSOCIATES / MEMBERS / SENIOR MEMBERS
Associates are persons, technical or non-technical, in possession of educational qualifications of matriculation level, who are involved in electrical engineering but do not qualify for election to the grade of Member, but would benefit from membership and those who are progressing through continuing education and experience towards the qualifications for becoming a Member.

Members are persons in possession of a degree in electrical engineering from a South African University or other approved University, or three years of successful study in electrical engineering at such a University, or the acquisition of a diploma of at least s4 level from a South African University of Technology or other approved institution, coupled with a certain amount of experience. Special conditions apply to persons qualified other than in electrical engineering but involved with electrical engineering, as well as persons of standing over the age of 40 who have demonstrated competence in the profession.

Senior Members are persons who are active as engineers, scientists, educationalists, or technical executives in the field of electrical engineering, who have had at least 10 years of experience after obtaining the level of qualification for the grade of Member and who have demonstrated significant performance for at least 5 of those years.

FOREIGN NATIONAL MEMBERS
Foreign National Members have a degree in electrical engineering or three years of successful study in electrical engineering at such universities, but are based outside of South Africa. Anyone wishing to register to become a Foreign National Member must contact the SAIEE Membership Department before applying. To apply for this grade, please click here.
