POWER & ENERGY

 

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Power and Energy Section (PES) are to:

a) Promote the power and energy electrical engineering field and associated sciences and their applications.

b) Lead, direct and influence policies in electrical engineering fields and associated matters in the public, private and educational sectors.

c) Provide skills and other resources to support the SAIEE Council and subcommittees in meeting the SAIEE mandate.

d) Grow the SAIEE membership by demonstrating a compelling value proposition to members and potential future members through hosting events of interest within our fraternity.

e) Through our Outreach Programme, promote membership and involve youngsters at an early age in the activities of the institution

 

SERVICES

The specific services we offer as a Section include:

a) Review ECSA applications for professional registration

b) Facilitate research into areas of interest such as rail technology, transformers, HVDC and HVAC technologies

c) Participate in technical committees such as SABS/IEC/IEEE/CIGRE, that set national and international standards on technologies, equipment and products

d) Capacitate the SAIEE Council and subcommittees through services and people, to meet the EXCO mandate

e) Review technical papers for publication into WattNow and the SAIEE Journal

f) Write publications for conferences and for the WattNow magazine

g) Review and accreditation of electrical courses and technical conference material

h) Organise and facilitate events, seminars, webinars, technical visits, lectures, etc.

i) Provide mentorship for students and young professionals

j) Through our Outreach and Adopt-a-School programmes, provide career guidance to learners at primary and high school levels




POWER AND ENERGY SECTION COMMITTEE (2019/2020)

The PES membership is relatively big and comprises individuals from various companies that are engaged in various industries within the electrical engineering fraternity.
It is for that reason that we have also formed focus areas such as the Rail Chapter, HVDC Research subcommittee, etc. Our committee for 2019-2020 comprises:
