
REGISTRATION AS A MENTOR
The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)’s documents R2/1 and R-01-P define the Policy on Registration of Persons in the Professional Categories of Professional of Professional Engineer, Professional Engineering Technologist, Professional Certificated Engineer and Professional Engineering Technician.
After completing their tertiary education, engineering graduates register with ECSA as Candidates and undergo a minimum of three years training and experience. During this period a Candidate needs to develop competencies as detailed in ECSA’s Guide to Competency Standards R-08-Px and Competency Standards R-02-PE/PT/PN/CE.
Guide R-04-P provides guidance to candidates, mentors and supervisors on training and mentoring whilst Discipline Specific Training Guides R-05/06/07-Px provide guidance on training and experience towards registration for disciplines and categories
Mentors and mentoring form an integral part of the training and experience process.
