The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers strives to be a leading and respected learned society of electrical engineers through:
- Promotion of electrical science and its applications for the benefit of its members and the South African community.
- Close contact with appropriate national and international organizations
- Recognising achievement by advancement of individual members to higher grades of the Institute thereby enhancing their status.
- Being the spokesman for electrical engineering in Southern Africa
- Being apolitical and non-discriminatory.
BUSINESS ADVANTAGES
Student Members are encouraged to attend as many of the Institute activities as possible, as it is a means of obtaining knowledge. Normally inaccessible senior people of major organizations attend these meetings and person to person conversations could arise. At these gatherings you could build up useful business contacts for future use in your career or even find a person who could help you with vacation work while studying. You can also obtain advice on educational and registration requirements as well as vocational guidance from experts in your field.
STATUS
Any form of membership of the SAIEE carries status in the profession. Once you start upgrading you may add abbreviations after your name which will indicate your membership grade. These are useful to others because they can measure your experience as you progress through the membership ladder to a higher status.
STUDENT CHAPTERS
Becoming involved in Student Chapters and even participating in their meetings could teach a member some valuable business skills like how to run a formal meeting and receiving instruction on non-technical subjects such as marketing, finance and management. You can also gain valuable experience by serving on organizing committees.
