SAIEE Transactions

The Transactions of the SAIEE journal was established in 1909, coinciding with the founding of the South African Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Its primary aim was to provide a communication platform for the new institute and support the interests of South Africa’s electrical engineering community. Until about 1984, the journal featured institute news, published transcripts of papers presented at meetings, and peer-reviewed articles. At that time, it was decided to divide the Transactions into two publications: ELEKTRON, which would continue as the institute’s communications medium and publish general, non-peer-reviewed articles, and the Transactions, which would focus exclusively on peer-reviewed content. Reflecting this history, the Transactions of the SAIEE reached Volume 96 in 2005, which marked a significant moment in its development.

Building on this legacy, in 2005, the journal was renamed from "Transactions of the SAIEE" to "SAIEE Africa Research Journal."

Today, the journal is accredited by the South African Department of Education, enabling South African academic institutions to receive government subsidies for articles published by their members.

In addition, the journal's production aims to comply with International Standard ISO 8, "Documentation – Presentation of Periodicals." Notably, in 2009, the journal celebrated its centenary, marking 100 years since its inaugural publication in 1909.
